Eddie Lenihan

During the summer i got a chance to do an internship with the lads and lasses in Cartoon Saloon. During that time the city of kilkenny had a heritage week and this amazing man called Eddie lenihan was telling storys. he is the most awesome person to watch cause he is so animated and lively . if your ever stuck so a hand pose or anything along those lines you should check this guy out on the old you tube. Later i found out that Tomm Moore was thinking of basing a character around this chap , when i saw some of the concept on his blog yesterday i got all inspired again. this is some of the results .

this design is heavley based on tomm's idea and this was all just for fun and not for anything else.

Sorry about the quailty but i don't have a scanner so i had to use a camera. These are just some tumbnails and ideas that i though of for a piece of animation thats keeping me sane at the moment.

Birthday Pin up

This is a little doodle i did for a mate for his birthday. I normal don't give my own drawnings as presents cause I'm never that happy with them. But for now I'm pretty happy with this and it got a cool reception at the party so i was very happy. It was also pretty fun to draw.

Professor monkey is going to get animated

I'm going to animate professor monkey to this months 11 sec club sound file, unfortunately i won't have it started by the deadline for it but i still like the sound clip and the character. Also i have never done a lip sync before or at least finished one so i think i had better learn. it looks all fancy and stuff in your show reel .

hope you enjoy this guy he's a bit of fun, and i also worked out how to draw him and really push the expression on him. this drawing was done in TV paint.

Faith-Short film

A couple of friends and i are going to start making a short film soon enough. this is a little of the first concept for the film that we have done so far. The project will be made in 3d which is a completely new area for me to venture into which is really cool. There is three of us working on it, Phil King wh0 will be mainly modeling cause he just a wizz at it, Pete Williams who will be modeling and doing the production design and I'll be animating. So far it has been very much everyone's film and its really cool cause we are not sure what way we want it to go so there is a lot of cool ideas floating around.

Edit_ My mate and fellow intern at the saloon like the background so he decide to put a character on it which i though was pretty cool. He hopes to animate it which i'm looking forward to see.

This is a bit better quialty video of the last test.I basically redrew the whole thing and put the character on model and tweaked the timing and spacing.

Edit: I just realized that i haven't given full credit to the influences of this design. I was trying to take elements from the designs of Barry Reynolds,Jean Baptiste Van damme, Tomm Moore along with design ideas that are in Disney character plus my own little things that i like to add. Just want to mention this in case any one looks at this blog and thinks that I'm stealing. I just been looking at a lot of these guys art work and its coming through in my drawing at the moment or at least it is in my eyes. This is just a personal project for my own development in the area of animation not design it's also not for commercial purposes of any kind.

Monkey Scribble Test Animation

I hope you guys can forgive the shitty consistency in the model but I was more worried about the movement and thus volumes and such were not the first priority. But so far there is all the extremes and about 95% of the break down and plus a bit of straight ahead in places.I should have a tie down some time this week but I can't promise that cause if I did i know i won't have it by then.

As always please crit this to bits. Oh i tried not to take reference from the James Baxter monkey in the lion king cause i didn't want people to compare it to that master piece. But i think bits and pieces crept in anyway like in the hand movements.

The Gentleman's Gentleman

This is an illustration that I'm thinking of showing in the kilkenny arts week. I have never shown anything before so this is a big deal for me. At the same time this illustration has given me an idea for a short film so i think I'm going to spend a little time and come up with a script for that. Hopefully it could get made. I was thinking that I would try and make it look like this illustration but have the whole project in 3d. It might be a nice contrast.

As you can see he is the same character as below but a slightly different design.I just wasn't mad about the whole priest costume so I changed his cloths a little to suit what I wanted.

Its some times amazing how one little doodle can spark an idea. Thats what happen when i drew the guy on the left. I have a great idea for an animation test that uses an acting idea that i read in a book called acting for television . So hopefully once i have my grad film done and if i don't get a job i can animate that.

The sequence of the pink panter is where he explodes out of a cup after he lands .
